Jason Wadhwani of Ashok Wadhwani Architects etches a charismatic villa in the scenic interiors of Alibaug. Addressing the inside-outside equation by establishing a self-effacing architectural vocabulary using precast and pre-stressed slab construction, the house has a mix of flat and sloping roofs. Throughout, expansive sparsely furnished spaces dominate in a manner that the architecture is kept visible rather than concealed behind a host of design objects and general clutter. Furniture is minimal and in simple straight lines. It resonates with the architectural expanses, as large volumes are open to the outdoors via sliding glass panels and courtyards. Every room - from the social spaces to the bedrooms – opens out to a view of the serene outdoors.
